A Study on the Effect of Cerebroventricularly Administered Neostigmine on the Renal Function of the Rabbit


Abstract
In this study, central role of neostigmine administered intracerebro-ventricularly on the renal function of the rabbit was investigated.
100 pg of intraventricular neostigmine produced diuretic effect following antidiuresis, concomitant with changes of renal blood flow, glomerular filtration rate and urinary elect¡þrolytes excretion.
Intraventricular atropine-pretreatment inhibited the diuretic effect of intraventricular neostigmine and potentiated the antidiuretic effect of the drug.
Changes of the parameters of, renal function by intraventricular neostigmine after the blocker were similar to the urine flow respectively.
Intraventricular regitine potentiated the diuretic effect of intraventricular neostigmine and inhibited the antidiuretic effect of the drug.
Renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate by the intraventricular neostigmine were decreased in the presence of regitine while excessive urinary excretion of electrolytes was observed.
From the above results, it is suggested that central cholinergic mechanism and other factors play important role of diuretic effect of intraventricular neostigmine and the antidi¡þuretic effect of the drug is not due to the central adrenergic mechanism.
